NFL: Think Pink!
Every year, for the majority of the nation, the fall signifies the beginning of football season, with October representing Breast Cancer Awareness! I’m sure you’ve seen all the pink incorporated into the games, from the players’ uniforms to the end zones—and sometimes even the game ball! The NFL partners with the American Cancer Society to raise awareness and funds for the fight against breast cancer.
This year the NFL is partnering with the American Cancer Society (ACS) in a campaign called “A Crucial Catch,” which focuses on the importance of annual screenings. Crucial Catch Day is on October 25, and this year the work continues with the thirty-two NFL teams participating all month. There will be even more on-field and in-stadium branding to raise awareness, and much of the apparel will be auctioned off with proceeds benefitting the ACS’s Community Health Advocates implementing Nationwide Grants for Empowerment and Equity (CHANGE) program. For the past three years ACS CHANGE grants have educated 72,000 women and provided more than 10,000 free or low-cost screenings.
While it is important for people of all ages to stay active and healthy, it is just as important to be aware of what can affect your health and how. Younger females may not be as susceptible to breast cancer prior to forty years old, but it still affects friends and family who are that age—and it affects both men and women. So, it is extremely important to be aware and spread the knowledge. Your health could depend on it!
