Hanging Yarn Ball Art
I found these really cool yarn decorations on Pinterest and immediately fell in love with the idea! All you need is a few simple supplies you probably have lying around the house already! Anyway, this weekend I made Hanging Yarn Ball Art for my room. It was superfun and really easy, too.
Here’s all you need:
1/4 Cup of Water
1/2 Cup of Cornstarch
1 Bottle of Elmer’s Glue
Fishing Line, Wire, or Thread
Balloons (medium or large)
Newspaper or plastic
Before you get started, you may want to put down newspaper or plastic.
Here’s how you do it:
1. Set Up Balloons*
Blow up your balloons and tie them with thread. Then hang them from the ceiling with tape. Be sure not to blow up the balloons fully if you want to keep your ornaments small and round instead of oval. You may need a ladder
2. Mix the Paste
Combine the water, cornstarch, and glue. The resulting paste should be runny but not completely watery.
3. Get Messy, Dip the Yarn!*
Dip your yarn in the paste, and then surround the balloon with the yarn. Wrap the yarn around and around until you like the way it looks. The tutorial I followed had instructed me to use only white yarn, but I used a bunch of different colors because I wanted mine to look a little different! You can also spray paint yours after it dries for an alternate finish.
4. Pop Balloons
After you let the ornaments dry for twelve hours to make sure they are completely dry, pop the balloons and remove them from the yarn.
If you would like to have a hanging ornament, be sure to thread some fishing line, wire, or thread through each ball, and then hang your ornaments up wherever you want! I hung mine in my room, and they look really cool! Good luck!
*If you aren’t quite big enough, you may need an adult to assist you with hanging the string from the ceiling and spray painting the yarn at the end. Safety first!
